Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!

You shall love the LORD your Godwith all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.

You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.

You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals o your forehead.

You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Peace Like a River

The other morning before we left we church we found this little baby bird on our porch. He seemed to be hiding and afraid. So we took him inside and starting doing a search on how to care for this bird. After much researching we found that the best thing we could do for this baby sparrow was to put him back into a bush or tree because his mother would come back and feed him. When they reach a certain age she throws them out of the nest and forces them to learn how to fly. Sometimes this can take a few days. During that time, she still brings them food and watches them because they can not protect themselves.

I thought about that for a while that day. How much faith it takes as the baby to trust that the mother will provide. Then I thought about how much faith it takes as a mother to let the baby go out alone and unprotected. Then I remembered that the bible speaks of the sparrows. Here is the passage.

Matthew 10 26"So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 27What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny[d]? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. 30And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

How many times do we say, sing, or think about God providing for our needs. But do we really BELIEVE it? Think about this....Really think about it... This tiny little bird is provided for.. How much more will our heavenly Father provide for us his children! Yet we are so quick to doubt. We so easily buy into the lies of the world and the physical around us. Do we forget that we are merely passing through this earth. We are not citizens here. How easily we doubt our Savior!

I do not know what you are going through right now. Your life may be perfect and if so Praise God but if you are worried, I ask you to look at our baby bird and remember that the Creator of all things will meet your needs. Read the words of the songs we sing. "Trust and Obey" "I Surrender All" "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" and most of all... "His Eye is on the Sparrow." Are you singing or are you Believing?

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain

I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain
